The Best Vietnamese Pho Recipe: A Step-by-Step Guide

Ingredients:
-1 lb. beef bones
-1 lb. beef brisket
-1 onion, quartered
-2 cloves garlic, smashed
-2-inch piece of ginger, sliced
-2 cinnamon sticks
-2 star anise
-1 teaspoon coriander seeds
-1 teaspoon fennel seeds
-1 teaspoon black peppercorns
-1 teaspoon sugar
-1 tablespoon fish sauce
-1 tablespoon soy sauce
-1 tablespoon vegetable oil
-1 package of rice noodles
-1 bunch of scallions, chopped
-1 bunch of cilantro, chopped
-1 lime, cut into wedges
-1 jalapeno, sliced
-1 cup bean sprouts
-1 cup fresh basil leaves
-1 cup fresh mint leaves
-Hoisin sauce
-Sriracha sauce
Instructions:
1. In a large pot, add the beef bones and brisket. Cover with cold water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 1 hour.
2. Add the onion, garlic, ginger, cinnamon sticks, star anise, coriander seeds, fennel seeds, black peppercorns, sugar, fish sauce, and soy sauce. Simmer for another hour.
3. Strain the broth and discard the solids.
4. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the strained broth and bring to a boil.
5. Reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
6. Meanwhile, cook the rice noodles according to package instructions.
7. To serve, divide the noodles among 4 bowls. Ladle the hot broth over the noodles.
8. Top with scallions, cilantro, lime wedges, jalapeno, bean sprouts, basil, and mint.
